What to eat on a 6 days / 5 nights trek

This list was our supply as we did the “tail” + “w” in Parque Nacional Torres del Paine (Chile) with special attention on weight and cooking time. We used an msr whisper light stove with a 887 ml fuel bottle filled with gasoline from the pump.

Day 1

Breakfast: at the hostel (enjoy it!)

During the day: 100 gr. dry fruits, 100 gr. nut mix, 1 cookie roll, 2 snickers, some caramel candy

Dinner: mashed potatoes (2x 150 gr.), chicken meat (110 gr. without can in a zip plastic bag), salsa Americana (200 gr)

Desert: Dulce de Leche (200 gr) and cookies or something else that brings a smile on your face after a long day of hiking

Day 2

Breakfast: Porridge (250 gr.), sugar (2 little packs like in a café), melk powder (20 gr.), cacao (2 spoons), 2 tea bags maté tea

During the day; desert: (as above)

Dinner: small soup noodles (400 gr., cooking time 4 minutes), instant soup as sauce (just add only half the water as told on the package)

Desert: a candy bar like snickers or something else that brings a smile on your face after a long day of hiking

Day 3

Breakfast; during the day; desert: (as above)
Dinner: Chinese instant noodles (3 packs) chicken flavor

Day 4

Breakfast; during the day; desert: (as above)
Dinner: Polenta (250 gr.), instant soup as sauce, Chorizo salami (125 gr.)

Day 5

Breakfast; during the day; desert: (as above)
Dinner: Chinese instant noodles (3 packs) meat flavor

Day 6

Breakfast; during the day; desert: (as above)
Dinner: Chinese instant noodles (3 packs) shrimp flavor

Important: before you go, choose something to eat at the end of your hike that you really, really fancy. We imagined us in the restaurant where they served giant burgers and a good local beer. If you have a bad day think of that treat :-)

The filled fuel bottle was enough to cook a week long twice a day and to help out some backpackers who’s stove broke in the morning.

Tip:
Take every opportunity to fill up your fuel bottle or your provision, you never know why you could need it! Maybe you feel so good at the end your hike that you want to extend your journey or another hiker needs your help.
