Cambodia

Cambodia was the last part of my South East Asia travel in 2006. Lao and Vietnam lay behind me.

Route: Ho-Chi-Minh-City – Phom Penh – Siem Reap – Angkor – Bangkok

 Phnom Penh
To get there I chose the boat. It was wonderful. You can see so much going on along the water line. Live goes it’s way like it probably did decades if not centuries ago.

Siem Reap
The city is more or less – probably more – are big gathering of hotels and hostels.

Angkor
I bought a three day ticket, which is for me the minimum of time you should spend.

  • For my first day I took a guide to get an overview with some information.
  • The second day I rented a bike to see things on my own pace.
  • The third day I took the bike to get to the temples far more in the south to view the sunset. The sunset was beautiful although I wasn’t alone. 15 minutes before the sunset started busloads of Asian tourists came to join me.Tip: Make sure that the lights on your bike work. I didn’t do that and so the ride on the road back – which was very busy – through the pitch black night was really a bit dangerous.

Every time I think back to this trip to Angkor I am absolutely sure: I have never seen anything that is so impressive like Angkor. Art, architecture, engineering, landscape from a unique combination – WOW.
