Chile

Chile was the second country on our trip around the world in 2015.

We split our travel journal of Chile in two halfs.
1. Patagonia (shared with the Argentinian part)
2. Chile further north

The little differences compared to Argentina:
Cars stop in Chile for pedestrians. We couldn’t believe it!
They try to reduce plastic bags, i.e. in supermarkets.
In Chile we changed the local currency into US Dollars (that we wanted to use for our last stop in Argentina) at a good rate. Later in Chile we even got rid of our left Argentinian money, although we made a loss.
Even less people than in Argentina speak English – so be prepared at least with the basic Spanish language skills.

Same same but different:
The slow relaxed pace of life…
The actual prices for living and traveling…
The many chilled street dogs…
A very good and reliable bus network…

Natural Disaster
During our stay there were huge forest fires in Patagonia, active Volcano Villarica erupted, severe flooding hit the Atacama region and we felt an “everyday” earthquake in La Serena.
So you have to be aware that in Chile many things can happen and that you have to stay flexible and change your plans along the way. However we ourselves were not one minute in any danger and felt very safe all the time.
