Ecuador

In 2005 Tom started for his first backpack adventure.

I had worked for for a winter season in a very beautiful region of Switzerland, the “Portes Du Soleil”. I had learned a lot and worked hard. I deserved a long vacation, before starting my new Job in Cologne! My travel mate wanted to go to Ecuador and Peru so I went along. A very good friend of mine had returned early from South America at the end of his travel around the world, because he had experienced a feeling of what he described as “watching your back, constantly”. I was not sure what to expect.
This journey turned out to be a great adventure. With the experience that I have today (2014) I think yes, you have to be more alert traveling here as for instance traveling in Asia. With normal common sense however you will get along fine, although we had some instances on our travel in 2005 that could have turned out differently.
